Why I Want to be a Nurse

I've been all over the place during my time here at Plymouth. I was undecided for almost two years bounding around from early childhood education to criminal justice classes. Nothing seemed to grasp my interest. For as long as I can remember, I never really knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. I think if you asked me that question when I was five I would have said an artist, and if you look at my artistic ability today you would understand that it isn't a possibility. I went into nursing on a limb, almost as a last resort. Blood doesn't bother me and I always wanted a job that could help people so I thought, why not? Starting a nursing program almost my junior year just proved that it was not going to work out. I went through tons of obstacles and eventually ended up in the interdisciplinary program here at Plymouth. Still unsure of what I wanted to do, I really took the time to explore my options and see what my interests are. I really love working with kids. I have since I was in seventh grade in various settings. I realized a lot of my classes incorporated women's health and I started to become more engaged in that. I decided that nursing was the career path for me, just not at Plymouth State. I plan to get my bachelors in nursing in Boston once I graduate from here and I couldn't be more excited about it!
